10 things you need to know before boarding a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, Turkey
Many people make the long journey to Cappadocia just to feel light in a basket and fly high in the air. Now that we've had the privilege of experiencing it, I can understand why it's described as a "once in a lifetime" trip. Here's what you need to know about balloon flights in this amazing region of Turkey!
1. The first commercial balloon flight took place just three decades ago.
The first commercial passenger balloon in Turkey was operated by Lars-Eric Möre and Kaili Kidner in 1991. Since then, more than 25 companies and 200 hot air balloons have been registered to operate balloon rides in Cappadocia.
The ballooning industry in Cappadocia has only really developed in recent years thanks to the extremely favorable conditions in the region, the proliferation of instant media such as Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok and the increased accessibility of travel.
2. Hot air balloon season is all year round
Hot air balloon flights in Cappadocia are incredible not only because of the unique and rugged landscape, but also because the hundreds of balloons fly around 250 days a year, compared to around 60 days in other parts of Europe.
